Mission Statement

Small Steps Child Care Center is committed to providing a challenging and stimulating environment that will support and encourage emotional, physical mental and spiritual development. Our mission is to help with the process of childhood education through a structured learning setting, and to provide the best possible safe, nurturing and loving environment for your child.

Small Steps believes in promoting and practicing our language, culture and traditional values as Moose Cree First Nation, and will educate ourselves and our children accordingly, to serve as the foundation of our program goals.

General Information

Small Steps Child Care Center

Small Steps Child Care Center has been in operation since 1973, is licensed by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, and adheres to the requirements of the Day Nurseries Act of Ontario.

The Center can provide care for up to a total of 55 children, in three (3) age groups.

Small Steps staff are qualified Early Childhood Educators with additional training in C.P.R., C.P.I., (write out acronyms) and First Aid. All staff is screened for a criminal reference check prior to working in the Center. We have a Resource Teacher on site to work with children who are experiencing speech and language delays, children with social, emotional and behavioural needs. Small Steps utilizes the resource and support services of consultants who visit our Center and assess children who may require special needs programming.

The Small Steps Child Center is managed by the Small Steps Parent Council which meets monthly and is accountable to the Board of Directors at the Moose Cree Education Authority. Monthly staff meetings are held to discuss program goals and to ensure the program is meeting its mission statement.

Childcare policies are implemented to maximize the level and quality of care for you and your child. Small Steps Child Care Center will utilize the policies to guide and assist in the successful operation of the Center and to help promote achievement of program objectives.

Services

We are licensed to offer the following child care programs:

Regular hours of operation are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., (with the exception of Summer Hours, as per Small Steps Child Care Policy Section 5.2).

Child care services are offered year round with the exception of statutory holidays, planned professional development days, and board designated holidays. An annual Center calendar is issued in April of each year.

Each group has designated areas and space to run their respective programs. Administrative staff is always present during operational hours.
